Shot Show 2017

The SHOT Show is the industry’s largest annual event showcasing the latest offerings in the field of firearms, hunting and outdoor products and accessories.  SHOT stands for Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade show and is sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).  It is THE big event when it comes to seeing all the latest gear in one place.  It is only open to people in the gun industry such as writers, retailers, manufacturers, etc.  This year promises to be one of the best ever.  I will be showcasing some of the latest gear from my favorite companies as well as covering any new stuff I can find.  Each year I find a few hidden gems so stand by!  If you are heading to the Show I have included their booth numbers for your convenience.

Streamlight is one of the largest flashlight companies in the world and can be counted on to constantly come out with new and exciting products.  What I love most about their stuff is it is designed to be used, not just look cool, and it has a lifetime warranty!  They have already started previewing their new offerings by unveiling a new and improved, user friendly website.  The site has a sleek new look and is not only easier to use but is location based.  This will provide the user products and content specific to their region.  Booth 12562

Galco Gunleather is one of the oldest holster makers in the country.  Their stuff is custom quality at production prices.  I will be doing a review of their history along with their latest offerings in an upcoming feature so please check back after SHOT.  Booth 12719

Gerber Gear

Gerber has always made great knives but in recent years they have really gone crazy with their tool line.  They have a dizzying array of multi-tools that are built mission specific.  Last year they entered the flashlight market in force with some quality offerings.  They haven’t forgotten that knives are where they started and continue to offer awesome cutting tools.  I used their new Vital Pocket Folder and Myth E-Z Open gut hook on my daughter’s first deer this past November and was so impressed I bought them for my friends.  Booth 13614

Black Hills Ammunition

There will be a lot of ammunition on display at SHOT and there will be many die hard shooters waiting to see what Black Hills unveils.  They make so many different types of unique loads already there is no need to come up with something new but I won’t be surprised if they do.  Booth 3019

Nite Ize

If you don’t already know Nite Ize I’ll cut you some slack, perhaps you have been living under a rock.  Their stuff is in just about every hardware and outdoor and sporting goods store.  They make lights, bicycle accessories, cell phone gear and pet products.  Most notably they are known for their unique and innovative carabiners, clips and gear ties.  I am always amazed at their new products and am astounded at how affordable their stuff is.  Booth 1414

Spyderco has always been one of my favorite knife companies.  As a rookie cop over 20 years ago I carried a Spyderco Police model.  Now as a veteran desk jockey I carry a Spyderco Chaparral in my pocket on most days.  My meetings with Spyderco are always a highlight of the Show for me.  Booth 10367 & 13113

This is one of those hidden gems I was talking about earlier.  Seirus primarily makes gloves, masks, hats and gear for cold weather and snow sports.  I came upon the Seirus booth a few years back and found they are based just down the road from me.  It took me a little while to convince their rep that I wasn’t trying to sell him advertising but just wanted to test and write about his gear.  What caught my eye was their line of Sound Touch gloves which allow you to use your touch screen devices while wearing their gloves.  They have a line of gear in several camo patterns for hunters which I immediately jumped on.  I have used their gloves and head gear for several seasons now and it is waterproof, warm and very thin.  These are some of the best gloves I have found.  Booth 11740

One of the largest ammo makers in the U.S., Hornady always has large booth at SHOT and it is always packed.  Their line includes ammunition, reloading equipment and security products.  They have several new things coming out this year so we have plenty to look forward to.  Booth 3032 & 13145

TUFF Products

This is my favorite gear company.  Not only do they make top quality stuff, but they are known for custom projects and designs.  Some of their latest items include the iStow Backpack, Sure Fit Competition Belt System and the Break Out Tactical Pen.  I can’t wait to see what they have in store this year.  Booth 13379

The SHOT Show has almost 2,000 booths to see so I will be spending several days walking, talking, looking and touching.  I’ll see you when I get back and recover!
