For years I have been seeking a compact weapons light that is not only operational but compact and dependable. Having carried many concealed firearms for many years both in the US Military and in Law Enforcement, I have tested and fielded a host of lights from numerous different manufacturers.  So when I heard Streamlight had a new compact light on the market, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one.

Recently I was afforded the opportunity to test Streamlight’s new TLR-7 compact weapon light. I currently carry the Heckler & Koch VP9 SK 9mm semi-automatic handgun for concealment work.  I placed the weapon light on the VP9 and it seemed to perfectly fit the contour of the compact frame of the HK.  I have used this light in a magnitude of climates and situations over the past two months.  The use ranged from clearing residential style homes in southern California under low-light conditions, high risk vehicle stops on cars with tinted windows, to use in complete darkness on a frozen Idaho mountain.  Each situation allowed the light to outperform my expectations.

The aluminum and polymer plastic casing of the light made it durable not only for daily wear but for undercover SWAT operations as well. The light has plenty of power, with 500 lumens of bright white light, allowing you to operate in any environment.  The light casts a bright clear mid-range beam which is perfect in every situation one would need a weapon light.  The ambidextrous trigger switch offers the operator the ease of activating the light with either thumb when using an aggressive two-handed grip.  The safe off feature is a great addition to a weapon light which allows the user to lock out the light to reduce the risk of accidental activation.  Streamlight lists the battery life at 1.5 hours on high.  I used it regularly for a month before I needed to change the battery.  Anyone who uses a light for defense knows you should be changing the battery before you need to anyway.  The forward mounted battery cap made changing the battery quick and easy to do in the field.

The Streamlight TLR-7 is my new “go to” compact weapons light for all of my compact handguns. It has proven to be one of the best choices for a compact weapon light.  The Streamlight TLR-7 is a dependable high-quality combat weapon light that will ensure your operational success in low light and no light situations in all environments.  I highly recommend this weapons light to any Military or Law Enforcement Officer who is looking for a highly dependable compact weapons light.
