Earlier in the year I wrote an article on the new FN 509 9mm handgun. I have shot this gun plenty since I purchased it and I am still impressed with how well it shoots. So what does one do after he purchases a handgun? He starts shopping for a holster. I wanted a nice, solid and comfortable IWB holster for concealment. I met up with Galco at the SHOT Show and they set me up with their V-Hawk IWB Holster.
The V-Hawk is not a traditional style holster, or at least what I think is traditional. Meaning I am traditionally a “Kydex” style IWB holster guy and the V-Hawk is a made of steerhide. I have to admit I was a little unsure of the holster but was open minded about it. Boy was I glad. I wore this holster accompanied with the 509 religiously, taking it to the range and practicing my draw and re-holstering. The 509 drew with ease in large part to the open top and the leather 1 ½” belt loops that kept the holster snuggly secured to my right hip. Re-holstering was easily accomplished due to the holster’s reinforced mouth.
The V-Hawk comes with 1 ¼” tuckable C-Hooks which enhance the concealability of the holster. Galco also offers 1 ¾” tuckable metal clips if that is your preference. I chose to stay with the belt loops due to the comfort and stability the belt loops provided. If you are in the market for a quality leather IWB holster I highly recommend you check out the V-Hawk.
