The Guninpho crew was at it again this August for our 5th annual Spur Outfitters Firearms Training event. There are many sponsors for this event and one of those sponsors was Ruger Firearms. As always Ruger came through and provided the many shooters that came to this event the opportunity to try out their latest creation, the Ruger Security-9 9mm pistol.

Shooters from all walks of life attend our event and what I appreciated about this gun is that they were all able to fire it comfortably. It is a mid-sized pistol with a nice contoured comfortable grip. All our shooters were able to achieve a high thumbs forward grip and fire this gun with ease. The texture on the grips were well enough that the gun could be held firmly but not eat up your hands. The Ruger Security-9 is equipped with a manual safety that was easily manipulated and was not too prominent. To go along with the manual safety is a bladed trigger safety. The trigger pull was smooth and the reset was easy to find. I also like how Ruger incorporated front and rear cocking serrations on the slide. The serrations made it easier to teach the students proper slide release techniques while incorporating magazine changes.

The Ruger Security-9 9mm comes with two alloy steel 15 round magazines and we kept them full at our Spur Outfitters event. We went through thousands of rounds and really put this gun through its paces. I don’t recall having one misfire during the event. The Ruger Security-9 is a quality built gun and we ran quality built ammo through it provided by Black Hills Ammunition.

If I were in the market for an affordable, rugged built gun that was made in America, easily concealed, and great for home and self-defense I would recommend you look at the Ruger Security-9 9mm handgun.
